Dates Milkshake Ingredients & Substitutions
Whole milk – coconut milk or any other milk alternative work
Heavy cream – coconut cream, ice cream, or any other creamy alternative will also work.
Pitted medjool dates – do use medjool dates as they’re the softest and make for a delicious date shake.
Frozen banana – one ripe avocado will provide the same creamy consistency, but will make the shake less sweet.
Step by Step Instructions (with photos)
Add ingredients to a blender and blend on high
Pour in a glass and enjoy right away!
How to Store Dates Milkshakes
Date milkshakes are best enjoyed right after blending, however, you can store them with a lid in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. You can also freeze your dates milkshake and thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.
Dates Milkshake Tips
- Blend long enough – a solid minute (or more) is necessary for this shake.
- Soak dates – soaking dates for at least 30 minutes will plump them up and make them softer and more easily blended.
- Don’t forget to remove the pits – this is a MUST when blending dates.
- Use medjool dates – medjool dates have a thin and softer skin compared to other types of dates.
How to Make Dates Milkshakes Healthier
Everybody’s view of what is “healthy” is different. I believe full-fat, raw ingredients provide the most bioavailable nutrients to our bodies.
- Raw milk & cream – milk that hasn’t been heated at high temps in order to kill bacteria. This bacteria happens to be the bacteria that enables our bodies to better digest milk, which is why many people are intolerant to pasteurized milk products. There are more nutrients, enzymes, and good bacteria in raw milk.
- Naturally sweetened – keep this recipe naturally sweetened using only the dates and banana to limit the sugar.
- Use kefir for the milk portion – this will provide amazing probiotics as well as add a slight tang to the shake.
Benefits of Dates Milkshakes
- Great for pregnant women – dates have been shown to help women have a shorter first stage of labor and soften their cervix before delivery. The minerals in the milk provide great nutrients for pregnant women too.
- Provide a boost of energy – the carbohydrates in the dates, banana, and milk provide energy for those who drink.
- Great for children and the elderly – often these populations of people prefer liquid forms of nutrients.
- Perfect post-workout beverage – replenishes carbohydrates as well as protein and fats.
- Supports healthy skin and nails – all the minerals in dates help to support healthy skin and nails.
- Dates are nutritious – dates are a great source of fiber, potassium, B6, magnesium, copper, thiamin and antioxidants.
