what is burrata bruschetta italiana?
Burrata is stuffed mozzarella cheese. It’s a ball of soft, fresh cow’s milk cheese stuffed with cream. It has a very mild taste, but the texture is the highlight of this cheese.
Bruschetta Italiana is technically just toasted bread, but it has been more commonly known as toasted bread topped with a tomato mixture.
Burrata Bruschetta Italiana combines the two into a fresh appetizer made with a toasted, garlic-rubbed crostini, topped with creamy burrata and fresh tomato mixture.

After a long day under the summer sun, harvesting your beautiful garden tomatoes and basil, the perfect use for them is for this tasty appetizer. Burrata Bruschetta Italiana is fresh and simple, yet packed with flavor.
Serve burrata bruschetta Italiana for an Easter hors d’oeuvre, Independence day starter, memorial day party appetizer, or just a date night in!
Ingredients
- Roma tomatoes – you can use another variety of tomato if you’d like, but the sweetness of Roma tomatoes is perfect with the creamy burrata.
- Sea salt – use good quality sea salt and it’ll highlight the taste of all the other ingredients.
- Olive oil – another Italian favorite – be sure to use extra-virgin olive oil.
- Crostini – a delicious vehicle for burrata and tomatoes if I do say so myself.
- Garlic – you’ll be shocked at how much flavor just rubbing garlic cloves on toast can provide!
- Burrata cheese – if you cant find burrata, you can settle for mozzarella too.
- Fresh basil – Did you know the flavors of basil are actually star anise, black pepper and mint? So tasty!
- Balsamic fig glaze – my own simple creation of fig jam and balsamic vinegar. It comes out like the perfect balsamic glaze with a touch of sweetness.
burrata bruschetta italiana Instructions
- Preheat your oven to a high broil.
- Dice your tomatoes into small cubes (if they’re too large you’ll have a hard time topping your crostini).
- Add the sea salt and 2 tbs olive oil, lightly combine then let marinate for 10 minutes or so while you do everything else.

- Toast your crostini in the oven for a couple minutes on each side (keep a very close eye on these so they don’t burn!)
- While the crostini are toasting, make your balsamic fig glaze by combining the fig jam and balsamic vinegar together until it reaches a smooth consistency.

- When the crostini are golden brown, remove from the oven, let slightly cool so you can touch them, then rub both sides with your peeled garlic cloves.

- On one side of each slice of bread, drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle sea salt. Use either your clean fingers or a pastry brush to spread the oil across the surface of the crostini.

how to store bruschetta italiana
I don’t recommend storing assembled bruschetta Italiana, however, you can store each component separately to make for easy assembly later!
Store the tomato mixture, basil, burrata, balsamic fig glaze all in separate air-tight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Store the crostini in a plastic bag at room temp for up to 3 days.
To assemble, follow the same instructions above. They might taste even better the next day since your tomato mixture has had more time to marinate and develop its flavor!

Appetizer – bruschetta Italiana is traditionally served as an appetizer. This is perfect for holiday gatherings, date nights, or even just a simple pasta night appetizer.
Main course – make this a main course by adding some prosciutto to the crostini! Or, better yet, make it into a big salad instead by adding arugula and prosciutto – makes for a super fresh, healthy lunch or dinner!
Dessert – In Italy, they love to top burrata with sugar or honey. You could make this into a simple dessert by doing everything the same except omitting the tomato mixture and drizzling some honey over the burrata.
Charcuterie – Serve these burrata bruschettas on a charcuterie board!

Roasted Avocado Tapenade – use this recipe here and top your bruschetta with my olive tapenade, goat cheese, and roasted avocado! Simply scoop the stuffed and roasted avocados onto your toasted crostini – YUM!
Roasted Garlic Sourdough – Instead of a crostini, this recipe would be great with my roasted garlic sourdough loaf. Simply make the bread as normal, then slice, toast, and top as directed in this recipe.
Fire-roasted tomatoes – If you’re in fall and winter and still want to enjoy this bruschetta, use fire-roasted canned tomatoes!
Salsa Gremolata – use this recipe to top your tomatoes to add a delicious, fresh Italian condiment.
